Y.O.L.O is a myth.

‘You Only Live Once’ is a very limiting philosophy. I believe everyone can live multiple lives in a lifetime.

My story is proof of that. I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Fifteen years ago, I moved to the UK, after a traumatic event and a bet with my partner. One day I hope to have a conversation with you to tell you more about this rather tragic-comic story!

Living in London for the last ten years, I’ve built one of the most successful video game companies in Europe. Bossa Studios won multiple awards including a BAFTA, and is now a multi-million-dollar business. Its games are loved by the biggest influencers and played by millions of people worldwide.

But, as with everything we achieve in life, my career didn’t start like that.

The path to success is never a straight line. Very much the opposite – it’s a messy bumpy journey, full of dead ends, and wrong turns that eventually lead you to magical moments of beautiful alignment between what you desire and what works.

Since my teenage years, my eagerness for experimentation first led me to become a computer scientist – I loved games and the concept of building the future with Tech. I then decided to do an MBA with a Marketing specialisation to expand what I perceived back then to be a narrow career choice. I worked at a 12,000-employee TV Broadcaster (Rede Globo), I worked at Nokia, in product manager roles, marketing, innovation, and eventually, after spending a decade as an intrapreneur in large corporations, I decided to take a massive leap.

I became an entrepreneur, building a business much bigger than myself. I got hooked and became really good at starting new companies. From zero to one – from idea to gathering co-founders, defining an audience, hiring a team, raising funds and launching products. Voila, it turned out I loved being a serial entrepreneur.

In recent years, I also became an angel investor, a content creator on YouTube, a keynote speaker, podcaster, futurist, and dare I say, storyteller. I’ve never lost any of these skills or identities. I neatly added them to my toolbox, realising and accepting change is the only constant in our lives.

It turned out I’m a multipotentialite – also called multi-hyphenate or polymath or Renaissance woman or multi-passionate. I.e. Someone with many talents, interests, aptitudes, projects, businesses and identities. I trust that following our curiosity, taking risks and challenging the script of life are the key ingredients to our unique success. Society’s definition of success doesn’t apply to people with a multipotentiality drive!

People say ‘you can only be what you can see’. I agree.

My mum divorced when I was six years old and she single-handed supported my sister and me, making considerable efforts to give us the best education she could afford so that we could venture into the world prepared. All this while she worked full-time to build her own career. My mum, my first role model, showed me if I applied my heart & mind and worked hard, I could be whatever I wanted.

Multipotentialites like Bjork and David Bowie – who are musicians, artists, producers, actors, prolific creators – inspire me to be bolder every day. Their curiosity and refusal to be pigeon-holed, but instead to keep evolving, disrupting and exploring, always resonated with me.

Alan Watts, the philosopher, put it beautifully:

“We thought of life by analogy with a journey, which had a serious purpose at the end, success or whatever it is. But we missed the point the whole way along. It was a musical thing and you were supposed to sing or to dance while the music was being played.”

With two decades of international experience from ordinary corporate jobs to becoming a successful creative entrepreneur full of passion projects, I developed my artistic self and refused to fit in despite many failures, life twists and off-beat adventures.

Here’s how I can help you and your organisation as a keynote speaker, advisor, NED or angel investor:

I help you BE THE REBEL, the learner, not the master – so you feel confident to jump into the unknown.

I provoke you with FRESH PERSPECTIVES – so you are ready to experiment with new ideas.

I bring you stories of daring people who FOLLOW THEIR CURIOSITY – so you get constantly inspired to shape the future and be different.

PS. Emilie Wapnick popularised the term multipotentialite in her incredible TED Talk. Do check it out if you identify yourself as a multipotentialite. You can read more about Multipotentiality on Wikipedia.
